Earlier today we reported that Windows Phone 8 will support resolutions of 480x640, 480x800, 720x1280 and 768x1280. A new report indicates that may just be the tip of the iceberg, however, as a Windows Phone device running at 1080p (1920x1080) was discovered.
Windows Phone Daily discovered the device when looking through its analytics information. The site also found a device running at a 768x1280 resolution, as with the earlier report. Strangely, the device didn"t connect to Windows Phone Daily from Redmond or its surrounding areas, but instead connected to the site from London, England. Microsoft does have an office in London, however, and the city is also a major market for Windows Phone device manufacturer Nokia.
Conversely, the analytics information for the Windows Phone device running at a resolution of 768x1280 came from Redmond, the site reports. No information about the display"s color depth settings were reported. The report from earlier today indicated Windows Phone 8 devices will support 24-bit color depth, an improvement over the current Windows Phone color depth of 16-bit.
The next version of Windows Phone, codenamed Apollo, will be revealed next month at a developer conference provided by Microsoft in San Fransisco. It"s been rumored that Windows Phone manufacturers are testing Windows Phone 8 devices in Australia. Microsoft"s been fairly tight-lipped about its new mobile operating system, although an executive of a mobile service provider recently said the operating system is "pretty impressive."
