In Windows 10, it has become apparent that Microsoft is building in support for light and dark themes. While we do not know how far these themes will reach across the entire OS, we have now seen them show up in two different places.
The first place we spotted them was in the mobile version of Spartan that you can see below. Now the themes have shown up in the new Store beta that shipped with the latest version of Windows 10.
As you can see from the images at the top of this post, there is a dark and light theme that you can toggle by pressing Ctrl+T. While the new themes are present in the Store, in other apps, like the Xbox app, there does not appear to be a light and dark theme.
Light and dark themes are helpful for when you are using your PC in low-light. If you have ever stayed up late and used apps that are mostly white at night, you will know the feeling of having your pupils blasted by the light. With the dark themes, Microsoft is making it easier to avoid this situation - and besides, having two color options is never a bad thing.
We will be curious to see how far Microsoft takes these themes and what other apps they will show up in. For now, there are two apps that support light and dark themes, but if you find any more, make sure to send us a tip.
Thanks for the tip Greg!
