Yesterday, Microsoft released its round of cumulative updates for all versions of Windows 10, at least on PCs. Unlike in previous months, there were no new Windows 10 Mobile updates to coincide with them. Those new builds, however, were released today for all supported versions of the OS, which include the Anniversary Update (version 1607), the Creators Update (version 1703), and the Fall Creators Update (version 1709).
For those on version 1709, you"ll get KB4077675, or build 15254.248. It contains the following fixes:
This build includes all the improvements from KB4074592.
Addresses issue where the touch screen would remain unresponsive. In most cases, using the Power button to turn the screen off and on restores responsiveness. Occasionally, at startup, the touch screen would remain unresponsive, and the only recovery mechanism was to restart the phone.
If you"re unfamiliar with KB4074592, that"s the update that users on version 1703 got yesterday, and it"s the same one that Mobile users on 1703 are getting today, bringing the build number to 15063.909. Both updates have a known issue that PDFs can"t be viewed in the Edge browser, and it"s the one thing that"s been amended from yesterday"s changelog.
Symptom | Workaround |
---|---|
On Windows 10 Phones, PDFs cannot be rendered in Microsoft Edge. | Download the Microsoft Reader app. Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release. |
Finally, phones on version 1607 got KB4074590, or build 14393.2068. It"s also the same update that was released for PCs yesterday, and the changelog is also the same.
You can update your phone by going to Settings -> Update & security -> Phone update -> Check for updates. A simple way to tell which version your device should be getting is that the Microsoft Lumia 640 and 640 XL are the only devices stuck on 1703, while anything older is stuck on 1607, and anything newer is on 1709.
It"s unlikely that we"ll see any future feature updates for the dying platform, as Microsoft has confirmed that it"s not working on new features and that there are no new Insider builds coming.
