January 14 marked the end of Microsoft"s support for Windows 7. Or so it seemed. Today, the Redmond giant has made a surprising little addition—signaling an impending update—to its patch notes for the final KB4534310 update for Windows 7.
The said update caused an issue with the background wallpaper. Specifically, some people reported that after installing the KB4534310 update, the desktop wallpaper would display as a solid black color when configured to Stretch. All editions of Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 were affected across the board. Microsoft acknowledged that the bug was caused by the update but initially stated that the hotfix will only be provided to the organizations that had paid for the extended support of Windows 7.
Today, the firm has updated the patch notes and claimed that it is working "on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release, which will be released to all customers running Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1." While the exact date for the update has not been confirmed, it is likely that Windows 7 might see the promised update on February 11 on Patch Tuesday.
In the meantime, a temporary fix for the issue has been provided on the website. If you are facing the issue, you may try changing the wallpaper configuration to another option like Fill, Fit, Tile, or Center. You can also try your luck by using a wallpaper whose dimensions match the resolution of the desktop.
