Windows 7 smartphone released in China

Back in October, we reported that the China-based company In Technology Group (ITG) had announced plans to release the xpPhone 2, a smartphone that the company claimed would be running on Microsoft"s Windows 7 PC operating system. Now Ubergizmo is reporting that ITG has now launched the xpPhone 2, ahead of its previously announced plans to release the smartphone in 2012.

Based on previous statements from ITG, the xpPhone 2 has a 4.3 inch touch screen, an Intel Atom Z530 1.6 Ghz processor, 2 GB of RAM, and 112 GB of SSD-based storage space. The company has tried to make this device sound like it is an all-in-one product. While it can be used as a smartphone while a person is traveling, it can also be hooked up to a keyboard for use as a notebook or as a desktop PC by just hooking up a monitor.

The biggest feature, as indicated in this mock-up screenshot, is that the xpPhone 2 can be upgraded to run Windows 8 when it is released. There"s still no word on how much this smartphone costs. If anyone has purchased or even seen this smartphone, we would be very interested to hear your thoughts.
