Several months ago, Neowin first posted a slide from an internal HP presentation, showing a render for the Slate 8, their name for an upcoming Windows 8-based tablet made for business users. Later, the back of an unnamed HP tablet that looked similar to the device in the slide showed up in a TV commercial, as well as on HP"s own website.
Today, HP seems to have finally confirmed the existence of this Windows 8 tablet. Engadget reports that HP has revealed plans to release what it is now calling the ElitePad 900. The 10.1 inch tablet is being made specifically for enterprise users.
The tablet will weigh 1.5 pounds and will be 9.2mm thick. The article says it is running an unnamed version of Intel"s Clover Trail processor and will have 2 GB of RAM. It can come with either 32 or 64 GB SSDs and also has an eight megapixel camera and a front facing camera, along with a microSD card slot.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about the HP ElitePad 900 is its support for two optional cases, which HP is calling Smart Jackets. One of them, the Productivity Jacket, gives the tablet a keyboard, a full SD card reader and a way to adjust the tablet for more viewing angles. The other product is the Expansion Jacket, which adds two USB ports, a HDMI port, a full SD card and a way to add yet another battery to the tablet.
HP will also sell a rugged case to protect the tablet from falls and there will be an docking station sold that adds both a keyboard and monitor for the tablet. However, the HP ElitePad 900 won"t be ready for the Windows 8 launch later this month. HP is holding off until January 2013 to release the tablet. Pricing has yet to be revealed.
