On Wednesday, Microsoft posted up their latest Windows 8 developers blog entry which showed a video of Windows 8 running on a touch screen device. Part of the video showed a Windows 8 desktop which was masked off. Now someone has uncovered what Microsoft masked off in that video, showing that the build number for Windows 8 in that demo was in fact Build 8165.fbl_fun_resp.111205-2000. The screenshot originally appeared on the Mydigitallife.com forums.
While the screenshot comes from Build 8165, Microsoft has already moved on from that version of Windows 8 as it tries to make its late February deadline to launch the public beta version of the operating system. The Winunleaked.tk web site says that the latest known build of Windows 8 is Build 8176.0.winmain.120103-1820.
It will be interesting to see if Microsoft will be showing off the latest build of Windows 8 at next week"s CES 2012 keynote and then later on the CES show floor at Microsoft"s booth. We hopefully should also get more clarity concerning the launch date for the beta version as well as a launch date period for the final version of Windows 8. Neowin will be reporting from CES 2012 with all of the details.
tl;dr: Video used build 8165; latest build is 8176.
