Windows 8 Netflix app now available for download

A Windows 8 app for Netflix was promised several weeks ago and today, the company has now launched its newest client for its streaming movie and TV show service. The free app can now be downloaded via the Windows Store feature of Windows 8.

In a press release, Netflix says that the Windows 8 app was built especially to take advantage of the graphics acceleration features that can be found in Windows 8-based hardware. As you can see in the above screenshot, it also has a "Modern" user interface to merge seemlessly with Windows 8.

The launch of the Netflix app is just one sign that we are in for a flood of Windows 8-specific app releases in the next 14 days leading up to the launch of Windows 8 itself on October 26th. A few days ago, a third party web site said there were now over 4,000 Windows 8 apps available for download worldwide in the Windows Store.

The big question: What will the number be when Windows 8 goes into its general availability mode? Will we see the number hit as high as 10,000 apps? Stay tuned.
