Windows 8"s Weather app now features an interactive and dynamically updated weather map.
Microsoft"s Bing team updated its Weather app for Windows 8 and Windows RT late Sunday to include location and mapping improvements, among other new features.
Though the app"s release notes appear outdated, a blog post by the Bing team indicates the primary improvement is an interactive weather map that is dynamically updated with moving weather patterns as they"re monitored. The map includes satellite, temperature, precipitation, cloud cover and radar options. Additionally, the app now appears to feature improved location-setting features, as users will now see a "get started" option to add favorite places directly from the app"s home screen.
The Weather app is the most recent Microsoft-developed Windows 8 app to receive a significant update or overhaul. Two weeks ago, the Bing team updated its other Windows 8 apps, including Finance, Maps, News, Sports and Travel. Late last month, separate Microsoft teams updated several first-party apps, including the Mail, Calendar, People, Xbox Music and Xbox Video apps.
Microsoft"s Mail app update brought several highly requested features such as flagging options as well as folder creation and modification capabilities. Similarly, the Xbox Music app"s update included several new features and an improved navigation system for on-device music libraries. The Xbox Video app"s update wasn"t as drastic, though the app now allows users to recover videos purchased on an Xbox 360.
