More and more software development tool companies have announced plans to support making games for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. Today, YoYo Games announced that their GameMaker: Studio software will add support for making games for both of Microsoft"s upcoming operating systems.
The press release states that the software allows game developers to create game titles with one code based and then quickly export them to run on a number of different platforms such as HTML5, Facebook, Android, iOS, Windows and OS X.
GameMaker: Studio offers a powerful, yet simple to use drag-and-drop integrated development environment with a built-in games-oriented scripting language that considerably increases games development productivity. GameMaker: Studio is a best-of-breed platform that caters to entry-level novices and seasoned game development professionals equally.
The added support for Windows 8 will be put in before the OS itself is officially launched on October 26th. Windows Phone 8 support will be added later in 2012. YoYo Games said they worked closely with Microsoft on this project. Sandy Duncan, the CEO of YoYo Games, stated, “The beauty with GameMaker: Studio is that it’s extremely easy for developers who have already or are currently developing with our environment to have Windows Style UI games ready for publishing on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 in a short amount of time."
Unity has already announced that its Unity3D game engine will support the making of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8-based games. Epic has also ported Unreal Engine 3 to work on Windows RT, the ARM-based version of Windows 8.
