It"s been a busy week for Windows users with the preview launch of Windows 8.1 but that doesn"t mean Microsoft has forgotten its other divisions this week. Today, the company announced new features for its Windows Azure cloud services.
In a blog post from Microsoft VP Scott Guthrie, he announced that both Windows Azure Mobile Services and Windows Azure Web Sites have now reached General Availability status. Both Mobile Services and Web Sites were previously released in preview versions.
Windows Azure Web Sites come in two tiers. The Free version allows customers to host up to 10 web sites in a shared compute environment, while the Standard Tier can host up to 500 websites with dedicated per-customer VM instances. You can also scale instances in the Standard tier via the Windows Azure Management Portal, as show above.
The Windows Azure Mobile Services offers a way to give Windows 8, Windows Phone, iOS, Android, and HTML/JavaScript applications some cloud-based back-end support. Microsoft launched the preview verison in September 2012 and since then it has gained over 20,000 customers. Microsoft has three tiers for Mobile Services (Free, Standard, and Premium) and more info on those prices can be found on the Windows Azure website.
