The code name for Microsoft"s overall Windows update plans is "Windows Blue", and Windows team leader Julie Larson-Green confirmed that name once again on Tuesday as she announced that a public preview of the "Blue" update for Windows 8 will be released by the end of June.
As it turns out, the Blue update plans also extend to Windows Embedded 8, the OS that"s made for embedded hardware systems such as ATMs, cash registers and more. In a new post on the Windows Embedded blog, David Wurster, Microsoft"s Windows Embedded Senior Product Manager, states:
With Windows Blue, we are furthering our platform alignment with Windows to address a growing category of devices on the edge of enterprise networks and will be bringing the update to market later this year. We’re excited to share more information in the coming weeks.
Details about what will be contained in the "Blue" update for Windows Embedded 8 were not revealed. Microsoft launched Windows Embedded 8 in March after a preview version was released in November 2012. In April, another version, Windows Embedded 8 Industry, was released. Microsoft plans to launch a third major variant of the OS, Windows Embedded 8 Industry Enterprise, in July.
