Windows Phone 7.5 wins Interaction Design Association award

Microsoft"s Windows Phone 7.5 operating system, also known as Mango, has already been praised for its design by many critics. Now the OS has gotten an award specifically to honor its interactive design features. Next (a Microsoft blog) reports that last week, Windows Phone received the Connecting Award at the first annual Interaction Awards, run by the Interaction Design Association.

Over 300 products from all over the world were submitted for these new awards, which were then judged by an international panel of experts in design; the final 26 winners included Windows Phone 7.5. The above video shows some of the elements that helped to give Windows Phone 7.5 the award, including the Metro interface, the Start screen and how Windows Phone 7.5 handles groups.

Winning more awards is always a good thing and it shows that Microsoft is making progress in getting people to notice its mobile operating system over more well know OSs such as iOS and Android.

Other winners in the Interaction Awards include the HBO Go mobile streaming video app in the Engaging category. Another winner was a hardware device called the Spotify Box. It basically allows people to play music from the Spotify streaming music service without the need for a PC or mobile device.
