Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview gets first update, bug fixes and improved battery performance

It"s been exactly one month since Microsoft released the Developer Preview version of Windows Phone 8.1 to the general public. Today, the company has released the first update for the preview version of the OS.

The announcement was made by Microsoft"s Windows Phone leader Joe Belfiore on his Twitter account:

Running #WP8.1 Developer Preview? GO CHECK FOR UPDATES! we have news bits with plenty of bug fixes including some battery improvements!

Users who have the first version of the developer preview can download and install the new build for Windows Phone 8.1 by going to Settings, tap on Phone Updates, and then tap Check for Updates. Based on Belfiore"s message, this is mainly to address issues in the first version of the preview and does not contain any major new features for the OS.

Microsoft recently revealed that the official lifecycle of Windows Phone 8.1 will begin on June 24th, which likely means that the "final" version of the OS will be made available on wireless carriers at that time. Microsoft will then update Windows Phone 8.1 for at least 36 months, or three years, after its lifecycle begins.
