Windows Phone 8.1 now on almost 40% of devices

It’s that time of the month when we check in with our good friends over at AdDuplex to see how the Windows Phone ecosystem is shaping up for the month of September.

AdDuplex is a cross-promotion network featured in many apps and through their statistics we can get a representative picture of how the Windows Phone market is doing.

There aren’t any major changes to note for this month but there are some interesting tidbits that give us a clearer picture of Microsoft’s efforts. First up we have point out that Windows Phone’s greatest strength is still in the low-end of the market.

The recently launched Lumia 630 and 635 models have seen some impressive growth across the board. The two affordable handsets showed up last month in the global top ten but now they sit in at #2 if you combine their marketshare.

This jump in marketshare remains true across all the countries that AdDuplex took a look at this month including the EU 5 ( France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK) as well as the US, where the two models account for nearly 13% of the market.

And speaking of Lumias, Nokia or rather Microsoft is still the dominant player in the Windows Phone space. While that’s not surprising, it does raise concerns for the overall health of the market. In September, Microsoft accounted for more than 95% of all Windows Phone devices.

Despite hopes that the large number of manufacturers that have recently joined the platform would put a dent in Microsoft"s share, all their efforts combined only account for 0.03% of the market. And out of that tiny slice, Prestigio and Micromax seem to be the only ones moving any sort of volume.

Finally, if we take a look at the Windows Phone OS by itself, we can note that Windows Phone 8.1, the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile platform, is now running on almost 40% of devices worldwide.
