Two weeks ago, Microsoft launched the public beta of its Windows Phone App Studio tools, designed to give anyone a way to make quick apps for Microsoft"s mobile OS. Microsoft later said that over 30,000 projects had been started with the tools in its first 48 hours. Today, Microsoft announced that in the past two weeks, they have seen over 55,000 active projects created with Windows Phone App Studio.
In a post on Microsoft"s Windows Phone blog, the company announced that due to the higher than expected use of the beta tools, they are now using a temporary access code system for people to sign into its website. Microsoft states, "We knew this tool would appeal to hobbyists and enthusiasts, but we didn’t expect quite so many to jump in so quickly. It’s been wonderful to see the enthusiasm."
Microsoft has also added some new features to the beta tools since its launch, including more external data source connections such as Flickr and improvements to the code legibility of apps created by the tools. There are also a number of new app templates to choose from, such as Birthday Party, Video Channels, My Hero and more. Finally, Microsoft has added what it calls "fundamental changes" to the Windows Phone App Studio beta to improve its overall performance and stability.
