Windows Phone future app concept contest winners announced

Microsoft is always looking towards the future, and that even includes ideas for Windows Phone apps. This week, the company announced the winners of a contest called the App to the Future design challenge that was launched with the idea of generating new design concepts for future Windows Phone apps.

The contest, which Microsoft ran with Core77, named five winners and a number of honorable mentions and finalists. The winners, included the weather forecast app 4weather, the social networking fitness app fitCHAMP, the "dancing" social app HappyAppy, the surfing forecast app Tide and the travel-themed social networking app TripUS. All of the winners get a free one year subscription to the Windows Phone Dev Center, a Windows Phone, a Microsoft Surface with Touch Cover, and a app design consultation with a Windows Phone design team

All of the apps in the contest are currently only design concepts. However, all of the winners, honorable mentions and finalists will receive a free one year subscription to the Dev Center, so there"s the strong possibility that these promising concepts could be turned into real Windows Phone apps. In fact, programmers and developers can add their names to a directory that will be sent to the finalists in the hopes that these app ideas can be made into actual Windows Phone programs.
