While in countries and regions like India, Pakistan and the EU, Windows Phone market share is steadily growing, things don"t appear to be going too well at all in Microsoft"s homeland itself. According to data from comScore, Windows Phone lost one million customers in the US alone in the last quarter bringing its market share down from 3.6% to 3.0%.
While the OS still has nearly twice the number of Blackberry users, the competition against Android and iOS has stiffened even further. Compared to the previous quarter, Android faced a slight drop in market share as well, down from 53.2% to 52.0% while iOS usage increased from 41.3% to 43.1%. Symbian on the other hand, understandably remained stagnant at 0.1% in the region.
The data also revealed the Microsoft is yet to break the rank of the top five OEMs in the country, namely Apple, Samsung, LG, Motorola and HTC. Even though the insight from the source might sound slightly troubling for Redmond, it is notable that with Windows 10 for PC and Mobile just around the corner, and with flagship devices expected with it as well, it is quite possible that Microsoft will double its market share by 2018, as data from IDC previously suggested.
