A new Windows Phone roadmap leak posted onto the internet today has given us speculative details of what could be possible release dates and specifications for future versions of the Microsoft mobile operating system.
According to website WMPoweruser who obtained the details, the Windows Phone roadmap is believed to be up to date as of October 2011 and shows a Q2, 2012 release date for the next version of operating system codenamed Tango, with the fourth release “Apollo” set for a Q4, 2012 launch.
The roadmap seems to show that Tango may be little more than an update to enable the Windows Phone 7 operating system to run on “low-end handsets” for what Microsoft call “products with the best prices”. This is one of many areas that Microsoft has struggled in due to cheap lower-spec Android handsets flooding the market.
Meanwhile Apollo is a different story altogether if this roadmap is to be believed. The article shows that Microsoft fully expect to be increasing overall volume of sales, something that they have said would happen through 2012 for sometime, while saying that the operating system will finally become competitive.
More importantly for some is the new that Apollo should enable release launch of some high-end devices with HD screens and dual-core processors while including better support for businesses.
However the roadmap may disappoint some prospective Windows Phone buyers, especially as it would seem that higher resolution devices could be almost a year away from release if this roadmap runs true.
