Windows Store continues to add Windows 8 apps

Earlier this week, Microsoft crossed the 1,000 app milestone for the Windows Store feature in Windows 8. However, that number was a combination of both the "Modern" UI apps and the Windows 8 desktop apps that appear in the store"s listings but are not actually downloaded by users directly from the Windows Store.

Today, the McAkins Online website posted up another update for the Windows 8 RTM version of the Windows Store. According to their numbers, there are a total of 1,080 "Modern" apps in the store (893 free apps and 187 paid apps). There are also 31 apps listed in the store as desktop-based. A week ago, there were 777 Windows 8 apps in the store.

As you might expect, the Games category has the most apps in the store with its number currently at 214, with 73 gamesĀ  added just in the past week. Apps placed in the Tools category went up from 52 last week to 91 this week. News, weather and entertainment apps are the only other two categories that have apps that number in the triple digits.

We can certainly expect a big surge of more Windows 8 apps in the next seven weeks or so, leading up to the official Windows 8 launch on October 26th.
