Windows Store gets 'universal' Instagram app

Following speculation over the weekend, a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) version of Instagram has launched on the Windows Store. The app is supposedly an iOS port, which was ported over using Facebook"s "Osmeta" tools, which the firm acquired a few years ago.

For those wanting to use the beta release, the following issues are present: Facebook login doesn"t work, "Share to" functionality isn"t working, and several issues are causing stability issues such as crashing.

As this version of Instagram was likely ported from iOS it does bring a decent amount of features with it such as:

  • Editing photos with free, custom-designed filters.
  • Improve photos with tools to change brightness, contrast and saturation as well as shadows, highlights and perspective.
  • Find suggested people to follow, based on current subscriptions and contents you like.
  • Send private photos and video messages directly to friends.

Despite being labeled as a Universal Windows Platform app, it is currently only available for mobile devices, you can download it here.
