Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts has been out of the game industry for the past several years. Today, the developer behind one of the most well known game franchises of all time gave the first details of the game which marks his return to game creation, Star Citizen.
As revealed on the game"s official website, Star Citizen is indeed a space combat game along the lines of the Wing Commander series. According to the site:
Star Citizen, already 12 months into production, will be launched on the PC and will include all the Chris Roberts hallmarks that fans of his games have come to expect over the years: high quality cutting-edge visuals and technology, a virtual world that is immersive and detailed, a sophisticated storyline that is wide in scope and visceral, heart-pounding space combat.
People will pay to download and play the game, much like a standard PC retail game, but there will also be virtual items that can be bought via an in-game store. Roberts is using a crowd sourcing method to get people to help fund the game, with extra content depending on how much people pledge. While the full game won"t be released for another two years to the general public, backers of the crowd sourcing campaign will be able to play a version of the game in about a year.
