According to a new report, Apple"s next iPhone will feature a larger screen. The new screen will measure "at least" 4 inches, according to the report.
If the report, published by The Wall Street Journal, is accurate, it would mark the first time Apple has changed the physical size of the iPhone"s screen (the company increased the 3.5 inch screen"s resolution by introducing the Retina display for the iPhone 4). Apple has reportedly contacted its Asian production chain members to begin work on the new display. The Wall Street Journal"s claims are as follows:
Apple Inc., which is expected to launch its next-generation iPhone later this year, has ordered screens from its Asian suppliers that are bigger than the ones used in iPhones since they debuted in 2007, people familiar with the situation said.
Production is set to begin next month for the screens, which measure at least 4 inches diagonally compared with 3.5 inches on the iPhone 4S, the latest phone from Apple, the people said.
Multiple display manufacturers are working on the new screen, according to the report, including LG Display, Sharp and Japan Display, a company which was created last month as a joint venture between Sony, Toshiba, Hitachi and the Japanese government.
The new iPhone is expected to feature a brand new design and launch later this year. Displays are rumored to be a large focus for Apple this year, with the new MacBook Pro rumored to be gaining a Retina display, as well as the new MacBook Air and iMac.
