If Simon Cowell gets his way, X Factor fans will soon be able to use Facebook as a means to vote on the popular reality TV music show.
Facebook has become a means for viewers and protestors to voice their opinions and launch various campaigns for and against the show and its contestants in the past. A couple of years ago in the UK, a Facebook campaign was launched that helped push Rage Against the Machine to the popular Christmas number one spot ahead of the usual X Factor winners song.
According to the Press Association, Simon Cowell has already held meetings with executives at Facebook with an aim to get the voting system up and running for the US X Factor launch and for a future series of the show in the UK.
There will be some differences between the two countries" voting systems, though, with the UK system allowing viewers to vote by purchasing Facebook credit and using them on their favorite acts in the show. In America meanwhile, the voting system has to be free thanks to US law.
A Facebook voting system would be a big move for a TV show, but it will pave the way for many young people who rarely pick up the phone to vote, to do so easily.
