Microsoft doesn"t appear to be interested in making a portable game console, although it is coming out with the Surface, which will be capable of playing games. So when Microsoft won"t do it, one handy consumer decided to turn the hardware and case of the current Slim design of the Xbox 360 console into a laptop-like portable gaming machine.
The man, known only by his handle "DBrizzle", posted news of his completed efforts on Reddit today. He also answered questions from other readers on the site. He says it took eight months to complete the mod project. You can see a gallery of his progress from start to finish on the Imgur site.
DBrizzle says that he decided to launch his mod project just for fun, saying, " ... I did it purely out of a desire for an electronics project... I graduated in 2010 with an MEng in Electronic Engineering, and it is keeping me sane whilst I start the final year of my PhD!."
The price for the conversion totaled about $520, which included buying the Xbox 360 console itself, along with a monitor, mold materials, some carbon fiber and other elements. Unfortunately, it does not include a battery; DBrizzle says, " ... even the most heavy duty 12V 10Ah Li-Ion battery would only last around an hour max."
