Microsoft may be planning to introduce a family plan to its popular game subscription service Xbox Game Pass. While no official announcement has dropped yet, Windows Central has heard from trusted sources that plans are in motion for the feature to be introduced sometime later this year.
Per the report, this Xbox Game Pass Family Plan will offer a five user access plan for a price that is much cheaper than paying for five instances of the service. All users in the plan will receive complete access to the hundreds of games available, apparently utilizing Microsoft"s existing Family Account system for Office 365, where the main account holder manages everything.
Although not utilized by gaming subscriptions, family plans have been an option in other services like Netflix and Spotify and for a long time now. The report states that while Microsoft has been interested in introducing the feature for some time now, the logistics of royalty distribution between publishers for the family accounts have been a pressure point, at least until now.
There are some unanswered questions such as how the various subscription options — like Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, and Ultimate — will be presented in the family plan, and what will the pricing look like. If the report is accurate though, expect an official announcement from Microsoft soon, with a launch coming later in the year.
