Xbox has released the May 2022 update (OS version: 10.0.22000.4557) for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles. This update isn’t huge but does add the ability to prioritise your gaming activity with Quality of Service (QoS) tagging that allows you to improve the experience of latency-sensitive tasks such as party chat, streaming, or multiplayer gaming.
To turn on QoS tagging, you need to head to Settings, then select General > Network settings > Advanced settings > QoS tagging settings. Then check to see if DSCP tagging and WMM tagging are enabled.
If you’re unsure about whether you’ve got this latest update, press the Xbox button on your controller and select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console Info. You should then see your OS version.
Aside from the new QoS tagging feature, this build also comes with its fair share of issues. Some controllers have been disconnecting, the icon for disc-based titles isn’t appearing for some users, some titles are appearing with an incorrect ‘Trial’ tag in My games & apps, and some users have reported their console coming on in the wrong resolution – this last issue can be worked around by restarting the console from the Power menu which can be accessed by holding the Xbox button.
If you want to manually grab this update, press the Xbox button then go to Profile & system > Settings > System > Updates. Here you’ll be able to select Console update available if the update hasn’t already been installed. If you want your console to update automatically, in the same menu select Keep my console up to date and Keep my games & apps up to date.
