A few months ago, Neowin exclusively reported that OneDrive would soon support music storage via the Xbox Music app available on Windows devices. Today, the option has finally been made available to the service"s users. This update for Xbox Music and OneDrive will make it easier to access your content on nearly any device and shows Microsoft"s commitment to the music streaming service.
Users can now simply open their OneDrive web folder or app, upload the music file from their hard drive and listen to it through the Xbox Music app whenever they want. An Xbox music pass subscription is not required, the process is completely free. People who already have the pass will get 100 GB free of OneDrive storage.
Currently, the supported file types are MP3, M4A (AAC), and WMA. It is quite noteworthy that the functionality has not been provided to Windows 8, Android and iOS users, users will need to have Windows 8.1 to take advantage of it. You can currently add up to 50,000 songs to your collection.
If you do not want your OneDrive music collection to synchronize with the Music app, you can simply place your music files in a folder other than that reserved for music. This is actually a big play for Microsoft as Apple currently charges $24.99 for a similar service.
