Xbox One and PC game 'We Happy Few' is being made into a movie

We Happy Few made an appearance at Microsoft"s E3 2016 press conference last June, and was released for the Xbox One under the Xbox Game Preview Program in July, priced at $29.99. The game remains in preview today - in fact, its Windows Store listing clearly describes it as "a work in progress".

But while We Happy Few hasn"t yet been completed, its developers have already struck a deal for a movie adaptation of the game.

As Variety reports, Compulsion Games is working to bring We Happy Few to the silver screen with dj2 Entertainment, which is also developing a movie adaptation of Sleeping Dogs and co-producing the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie; and with Gold Circle Entertainment, producers of the Pitch Perfect movie series.

Compulsion"s head developer, Guillaume Provost, said that dj2 had "approached us enthusiastically with really sold ideas about how to adapt our game to film while retain its menace, dark humor, and central themes." dj2 CEO Dmitri M Johnson said: "Our commitment is to make a movie that remains true to the source material, while still surprising fans."

Compulsion Games describes We Happy Few as:

...the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in the city of Wellington Wells. Set in a drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England, you’ll have to blend in with its other inhabitants, who don’t take kindly to people who don’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.

In addition to the Xbox One, the game is also available for Windows PCs via Steam and GOG.com.
