In terms of impact, Energizer has received 24 reports so far, with customers complaining that the excessive heat has been enough to melt the plastic cover. Also, some users have reported the smell of burning plastic in line with the charger"s deformation.

The item number for the affected device is 048-052-NA, which can be found printed on the bottom of the charger. The chargers, which can top up two Xbox controllers at one time, were sold at Best Buy, Gamestop, and Amazon from February 2016 through February 2017 for around $40, according to the CPSC.

Should users find the aforementioned code on their own chargers, it is recommended to immediately stop using them, and contact the distributor, Performance Designed Products, at 800-263-1156 from 10 AM to 4 PM PT, Monday through Friday to ask for a refund.

It is reported that about 121,000 units of the charger have been sold in the US, with about 7,250 sold in Canada and 2,560 in Mexico. At this point, with risks of fire being posed by the device, it is best to turn it in if you are affected in order to prevent any accidents.
