Custom backgrounds is one of the features coming in November
Despite its numerous improvements and its monthly update cadence the Xbox One is still missing one, seemingly basic, feature: the ability to take a screenshot. And according to Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, users will have to wait a bit longer.
In an interview given to IGN, Phil Spencer talked a bit about the monthly updates that Microsoft has been pushing to its console. Users really appreciate it and enjoy the constant stream of improvements, especially as many saw the new-gen consoles as being incomplete and missing basic features when they launched.
However, despite the success of this update program, Spencer said a screenshot feature and other major changes will have to wait until next year. He explained:
In December, it’s probably a time for us to pause for a little bit and settle just as all the new consoles are coming online.
It’s obvious Microsoft is hoping to see a boost in its console sales as we move into the holiday season and no doubt new users will need a period of adjustment before they’re ready for UI changes and additional features. Plus who wants to update stuff when they just got a new console? Everyone just wants to enjoy it for a while.
If this got you worried, don’t be. Microsoft is not abandoning this monthly update schedule. In fact November’s update is promising to be a big one with new UI changes, and December will still receive the regular bug fixes and improvements.
As for next year, Spencer said screenshots and many other features are on the list, including the speeding up of install times which is a personal priority for him.
