The group of Xbox security researchers who previously contacted Microsoft about their discovery of running Linux on the Xbox game console without a mod chip today announced their communications with the software giant failed.
In a letter addressed to the public, the group known as "free-x" discussed the possibility that mod-chips are good for business and that software companies developing titles for the Xbox "should be very worried by the lack of protection that Microsoft is offering their work".
According to the group, they requested the following from Microsoft:
According to the group communications were virtually non-existent, however far from their previous demand, the group hasn"t released details of their exploits as they promised. Many believe even if the group was taken seriously by Microsoft, others would discover the groups exploits. Whether the exploits will be released remains down to the researchers themselves. Only time will tell.
