The PC Gaming Show E3 event started off with Firaxis announcing a brand new expansion arriving for its turn-based strategy game, XCOM 2, titled War of the Chosen. The expansion will be the size of XCOM: Enemy Unknown"s own acclaimed expansion pack, Enemy Within, arriving with new resistance factions, enemies, environments and more.
Included in the new expansion as the "ultimate enemy of XCOM" are the Chosen, a trio of alien champions who use a mechanic similar to Shadow of Mordor"s Nemesis system where these aliens will show up multiple times during a campaign, and each time appear stronger, with new skills and abilities, as well as procedural strengths that the player will have to adapt for.
Moreover, the expansion adds three new resistance factions with their own fighting styles that the player can adopt by winning them over to the XCOM cause. During the event, Firaxis said that these resistance fighters are "the most powerful soldiers [the studio has] ever created" including stealth focused "Reapers", alien defector "Skirmishers", as well as the psionic fighters Templars.
Lastly, there are the Lost, the human inhabitants of cities that the aliens began their attack on, during the invasion twenty years ago. These humans have now mutated into husks that are drawn to battles in hordes, attacking any faction in its way, may it be XCOM, Advent, or Chosen.
XCOM 2: War of the Chosen expansion will be available on August 29 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
