Xerox to turn PARC loose

From the people who started the graphical user interface revolution, invented the mouse, heck you may as well say the "whole ball of wax", comes news that Xerox will finally turn its famed Palo Alto Research Center, known as PARC, into an independent company, seeking strategic partners for the project.

The newly formed company is expected to begin operations after Jan. 1 as a wholly owned Xerox subsidiary. Xerox will continue to have access to PARC research and technology.

PARC has been the source of major technology breakthroughs over the years. Researchers there conceptualized the first notion of the desktop computer and laid the groundwork for the graphical user interface that is included in today"s computer operating systems.
