XGI makes own graphics cards

XGI HAS DECIDED to brand and to introduce its own range of cards based on the chips it makes. We know that ATI has done this in the past, and that 3DFX was doing this until its last gasp of breath. Weak sales of its chips and slow acceptance of its products has, it appears, prompted XGI to take this step and sell products in the retail market.

The firm will offer its Volari V3, V5, V5XT and V8 cards all supporting Shader Model 2.0 and have four to eight pipelines. We don"t have any idea about pricing of these cards as yet, but it has to offer the cards at lower prices than Nvidia and ATI. For notebooks, XGI has Volari XP5m32 for think and light market, the Volari XP5m64 for performance market and the Volari XP5 for high end market notebooks.
