Xiaomi 12 Series unveiled with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor

Xiaomi has unveiled its Xiaomi 12 Series today which consists of the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro both powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and featuring DisplayMate A+ OLED displays. The Xiaomi 12 comes with a 6.28-inch display while the Pro is a bit bigger at 6.73-inches. In its announcement, the company also made mention of a Xiaomi 12X which is slightly cheaper than the other models and comes with the Snapdragon 870 but gave no more details.

The Xiaomi 12 Series will likely arrive in the rest of the world but for the time being, the company has only unveiled the available specs and pricing for customers in China. The Xiaomi 12 will have three variants in Mainland China: 8 GB + 128 GB (RMB 3,699), 8 GB + 256 GB (RMB 3,999), and 12 GB + 256 GB (RMB 4,399). These exact specifications may not be available elsewhere but some or all of them most likely will be.

As for the Xiaomi 12 Pro, it will be available in Mainland China with the following specs: 8 GB + 128 GB (RMB 4,699), 8 GB + 256 GB (RMB 4,999), and 12 GB + 256 GB (RMB 5,399). As mentioned, the Xiaomi 12X will feature a Snapdragon 870 chip and will be priced from RMB 3,199. Each of the devices will be available on December 31.

With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 engine powering the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro, users will benefit from a 30% boost in graphics rendering and an energy efficiency boost of 25%. It also brings artificial intelligence improvements. In terms of RAM, these products feature LPDDR5 RAM that boasts transfer rates up to 6400 Mbps. The storage performance receives a boost too, with write speeds reaching 1450 MB per second thanks to UFS 3.1.

Discussing the camera setup, Xiaomi said:

“Regarding hardware, Xiaomi 12 features a Sony IMX766 main camera with a 1/1.56″ sensor size, a 13MP ultra-wide angle camera, and a 5MP telemacro camera. Xiaomi 12 Pro features a state-of-the-art triple camera array, each of which is 50MP. The main camera debuts the Sony IMX707 with an ultra-large 1/1.28″ sensor which utilizes 2.44μm 4-in-1 pixels. This advanced camera system setup improves light capturing capabilities by 49% compared to the previous generation. This improved capability together with Xiaomi’s own Night Mode algorithm, Xiaomi 12 Pro excels in extreme low-light scenarios and allows snappier shots.”

Finally, both of these devices should get you through the day on a single charge. The smaller Xiaomi 12 features a 4,500 mAh battery while the Pro comes with a 4,600 mAh battery. Interestingly, they can be charged at 100W which will mean fast charging times and the single-cell design means more battery life is attained despite the more compact form factor.
