Xiaomi has announced that it will release two new TV set-top boxes for Chinese customers on February 1st. The Mi Box 4 will be Xiaomi’s high-end model, while the Mi Box 4c will allow customers to save 100 yuan. Xiaomi has not mentioned whether it intends the Mi Box 4 to succeed the Mi Box aimed at international users.
The new devices are equipped with a new AI system dubbed PatchWall. To activate it, simply hit the microphone button on the remote and tell it what you want to watch. It’s also compatible with smart home devices; a Xiaomi promotional video shows a user turning down the heater, and another controlling a vacuum cleaner.
Both devices ship with Amlogic Cortex-A53 / 1.5GHz 64-bit Quad-Core CPUs and the Mali-450 / 750MHz 3+2 core GPU. In terms of RAM, the Mi Box 4 comes with 2GB while the 4c has only 1GB. Both devices come with 8GB of storage space and support for 4K content, however, the Mi Box 4 has low energy Bluetooth 4.1+ EDR, Dolby Audio, and DTS-HD, while the 4c only has DTS-HD.
Compared to the international Mi Box, the Mi Box 4 doesn’t contain any new hardware. In fact, the CPU, while newer, appears slower than the Quad-Core 2GHz CPU found in the international Mi Box; Xiaomi seems to have kept the new boxes on Android 6.0, the same as the international version which is pretty bizarre as Android 8.0 has been around for a while.
The Mi Box 4 costs 349 yuan ($55.19), with the Mi Box 4c coming in at 249 yuan ($39.38)
