During its recent press event in China, consumer electronics company Xiaomi unveiled a slew of new products. Aside from announcing its entry into the laptop market, it has also unveiled a budget smartphone, called the Redmi Pro.
The handset features a 5.5-inch Full HD OLED display with a metal body. Under the hood, it has a 10-core MediaTek Helio X20/X25 processor, 4GB of RAM, 128GB internal storage, dual-SIM capability, and 4G LTE with VoLTE. Lastly, the device also includes a fingerprint sensor, USB-C connectivity, and a 4,050mAh battery.
As for its camera, a 5-megapixel selfie shooter is present, while there is a dual camera on the back-- a 13-megapixel camera (powered by Sony IMX 258), and a 5-megapixel secondary camera powered by Samsung. The Redmi Pro combines image data from both cameras to let users adjust the depth of field they get, opening up more possibilities for photography fans to play around with the camera.
The Redmi Pro"s price starts at RMB 1,499 (roughly $225), which will get a buyer a base variant of the phone with a slower MediaTek Helio X20 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. Meanwhile, shelling out RMB 1699 (about $255) will get you the faster Helio X25 processor, with 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. Lastly, RMB 1,999 ($300) entitles you to 128GB of storage, a Helio X25 processor, and 4GB of RAM.
The Xiaomi Redmi Pro will be available by August 6, and will be sold at retail stores and online. As per usual, the device will initially only be available in China, but the phone is expected to launch in India, Singapore, and Hong Kong as well.
