About a month ago, Xiaomi introduced it Redmi 9 series in Europe, with a starting price of €99. Today saw the launch of the Redmi 9, a phone from the same series, in the Indian region. The Indian variant is a little different, with the lowest spec version priced at ₹8,999 (~€102). In terms of the form factor, features and color choices, this variant is almost identical to the European Redmi 9C.
Xiaomi"s Indian Redmi 9 will be available in three color options (as depicted in the picture above): Carbon Black, Sky Blue and Sporty Orange. Like the Western Redmi 9C, it will also be powered by the MediaTek Helio G35 and will be the first Indian launch to run MIUI 12 based on Android 10 out the box. As for the RAM and internal storage options, the smartphone will come with 4GB RAM - 1GB more than its European counterpart - and two storage options of either 64GB or 128GB.

The latest Redmi smartphone will sport a 6.53-inch HD+ display with a teardrop notch to house the front camera. Speaking of cameras, the Indian Redmi 9 will have a 5MP selfie snapper with AI features and a dual-camera setup on the back with a 13MP AI camera and a 2MP depth sensor. It is a little strange, considering that the square design has space for three lenses. It appears that Xiaomi re-used the design of the Redmi 9C a little too thoroughly, as that model has a triple-camera setup.
Redmi India"s self-proclaimed "multi-tasking king" will have a 5000mAh battery with 10W charging and a MicroUSB charging port. Other features include a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, dual SIM support, 3.5mm headphone jack, microSD expansion, P2i splash-proof rating, 380V surge protection and basic features such as WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and various other sensors.
Indians will be able to purchase the upcoming Redmi 9 locally from August 31 onwards, when the smartphone launches in the region. The 64GB internal storage space version will cost ₹8,999 while the larger 128GB storage option will be priced at ₹9,999. Those who are interested in buying the phone can do so through Redmi India"s online store, Amazon India or any other retail outlets.
