Merely six months since the launch of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones, Xiaomi has unveiled the newest Redmi series in China with the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A.
Redmi 6A is the cheapest device in the series just like its predecessor, the Redmi 5A, that was launched in November last year. Xiaomi has opted for the MediaTek Helio A22 chipset for the 6A, while the Redmi 6 features the Helio P22 chipset. Both the chips are based on MediaTek"s power-efficient 12nm process.
On the imaging front, the Redmi 6 features a 12MP + 5MP dual-camera setup on the rear and a 5MP selfie camera. The Redmi 6A, on the other hand, features a single 13MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie camera. Both the devices are capable of capturing AI-powered portrait images. Keeping up with the tall screen trend, both the Redmi 6 devices feature a 5.45-inch LCD screen with 18:9 aspect ratio and an HD+ resolution. The battery capacity for both is also the same at 3,000 mAh.
The Redmi 6A with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage is priced at RMB 599 ($94) while the Redmi 6 will be available in 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage, and 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage options priced at RMB 799 ($125) and RMB 999 ($156) respectively. Xiaomi will begin selling the devices through online stores in China starting June 15. There is no word on other launch markets yet.
