It was only a few days ago that Xiaomi teased its latest handsets, the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. Now, the firm has made both official, giving all the details about its latest handsets.
As you can see from the image, the handset looks fairly minimal, offering up an 18:9 display that has become popular in 2017. Despite both handsets sharing a similar design, the internals are actually quite different.
The Redmi 5 offers:
- 5.7-inch 18:9 display with a 1440 x 720 resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor
- 2GB RAM with 16GB storage or 3GB RAM with 32GB storage
- 12MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera
- 3,300mAh battery
- Micro USB
The Redmi 5 Plus offers:
- 5.99-inch 18:9 display with a 2160 × 1080 resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor
- 3GB RAM with 32GB storage or 4GB RAM with 64GB storage
- 12MP rear camera, 5MP front-facing camera
- 4,000mAh battery
- Micro USB
As you might have guessed, these handsets will be exclusive to Asia for the time being. The Redmi 5 comes in priced at ¥799 (about $120 USD) for the 2GB RAM with 16GB storage model, and ¥899 (about $135 USD) for the model with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. As for the Redmi 5 Plus, the 3GB RAM with 32GB storage will be available for ¥999 (about $150 USD), while the 4GB RAM with 64GB model will cost ¥1,299 (about $200 USD). Those in China will be able to order these handsets starting on December 12.
