Xiaomi secures deal with Samsung for OLED displays for its upcoming flagship

Although Xiaomi has been able to produce some stunning handsets over the past year like its Mi MIX, it appears that the firm is looking to produce something better, as it has reportedly signed an OLED supply deal with Samsung Display.

The firm originally planned to use a 5.49-inch flexible OLED unit supplied by LG, but due to a delay, the deal fell through. This left the firm no choice but to source a substitute part from Samsung, who will provide a 6.01-inch rigid OLED panel for Xiaomi"s upcoming flagship handset.

While this might sound impressive, the handset will most likely never make its way outside of Asia. After taking the reins from Hugo Barra, the company"s global VP, Senior Vice President Wang Xiang, stated that while the firm does feel bad about not being able to get its products into more hands, its resources are currently already being spread pretty thin.

Xiaomi is a beast in Asia, where its affordable and stylish handsets can sell out in mere seconds when released. Despite this demand, the firm is wise to not try and spread into unknown territories, as it could end up like LeEco, another Chinese firm that has had nothing but problems after expanding too quickly into the United States.
