Xiaomi sells 800,000 'Redmi Note 2' in first 12 hours

Although Xiaomi has yet to formally break into the international market, its latest handset, the "Redmi Note 2", had an impressive first 12 hours selling 800,000 units.

While the sales figure might not be quite what Apple does in its first day with the iPhone, 800,000 is nothing to scoff at, considering the Redmi Note 2 did not have a global release. The sales milestone was posted on Xiaomi"s own Weibo page.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 includes the following specs:

  • 5.5-inch 1080p IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen
  • Mediatek MT6795 Octa-core 2.0 GHz / PowerVR G6200 GPU
  • 16 GB internal memory expandable via microSD
  • 2GB RAM
  • 13 MP rear camera
  • 5 MP front-facing camera
  • 3060 mAh removable battery
  • Dual-SIM
  • ?Android 5.0 with MIUI7

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 began sales on August 12th. The device starts at around $130 for the 16GB version and tops out at around $160 USD for the 32GB LTE model. The handset is offered in a variety of colors including: yellow, mint, blue, pink and white. Xiaomi has not announced official pricing or availability outside of Asia.
