Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi 5A, the cheapest device in the Redmi 5 series in India. But unlike last year"s launch of the Redmi 4 series, the company is yet to launch rest of the smartphones that are usually part of the lineup. The event for the announcement of these devices is set for Thursday, December 7 in Beijing.
While we wait for the official launch, Donovan Sung, Xiaomi"s global spokesperson has posted a few images of the upcoming Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones, effectively confirming the name and debunking some of the rumors surrounding the device"s appearance. From the images it is clear that the new phones will have tall full-screen displays that are trending this year.
Additionally, the available color options this time around seem to include black, grey, pink and light blue. The typical silver and gold colors are missing from the lineup. Rumored specifications of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus include a 5.7-inch screen on the former and a 6-inch screen on the latter. The resolution is said to be HD+ on the Redmi 5, while the Plus variant will feature a FullHD+ resolution.
Both devices could come in multiple RAM and storage combinations, starting from 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage, but we will know for sure at the official event in just a few days.
