Today, Xiaomi held an event in China where it announced a few new devices. In addition to the mold-breaking Mi MIX Alpha, the company revealed a couple more realistic products that are coming soon to Chinese customers.
First is the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G, which the company had talked about previously because of its fast charging capabilities. As promised, the Mi 9 Pro 5G can charge at 40W via wired connection and at 30W wirelessly. It also supports faster reverse wireless charging than most other phones, at 10W. That means the phone can fully charge up in 48 minutes with a cable, or in 69 minutes wirelessly.
Other specs include the Snapdragon 855+ chipset with 5G support which should work on all major Chinese carriers, up to 512GB of internal storage, and 12GB of RAM. It also features the "world"s most advanced" vapor chamber cooling system, making use of graphite sheet and copper foil to better dissipate heat.
There"s a triple camera setup on the back with a 48MP main sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide camera, and a 12MP telephoto lens. The camera features a moon mode, object tracking powered by AI, and the company"s Mimoji. The display is a 6.39-inch Full HD+ panel, with a Dot Drop display cutout for the selfie camera.
The phone also has a customized linear motor for vibration, offering "stronger vibration and shorter response time". Paired with the company"s software, there are over 150 haptic vibration modules for different parts of the software, such as zooming in with the camera, gestures, or typing.
The Mi 9 Pro 5G will come in a few storage and RAM configurations. The 8GB+128GB model costs ¥3,699 (roughly $520), the 8GB+256GB variant goes for ¥3,799 ($534), the 12GB+256GB configuration costs ¥4,099 ($577), and the top-end 12GB+512GB edition will run you ¥4,299 ($605). There"s no word on a global release.
Xiaomi also announced MIUI 11, the latest version of its custom Android skin. It comes with a new font called Milan Pro, and it offers the world"s first dynamic font scaling feature. It also features a new sound design inspired by the sounds of nature.
In addition, it comes with two sets of apps, Mi Work and Mi Go. The former offers tools such as file sharing, wireless printing, and smart screen casting, while the latter includes a smart travel assistant and an extreme power saving mode that can make the phone last 24 hours on just 5% of battery charge.
MIUI 11 will also be the company"s fastest rollout, with closed beta already underway, and an open beta coming on September 27 for 17 Xiaomi devices in China. General availability in China is expected in mid-October.
Moving away from phones, Xiaomi also announced a new TV, the Mi Full Screen TV Pro. It has a 4K panel contained in an aluminum frame, and it has a screen-to-body ratio of up to 97%. It"s powered by a 12nm Amlogic T972 chipset that can decode 8K video, and it features 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
It"ll come in three sizes: 43”, 55” and 65”, each costing ¥1,499 ($211), ¥2,399 ($337), and ¥3,399 ($478), respectively. The larger models also feature a carbon fiber texture on the back.
