After numerous leaks in the last few weeks, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S has finally been unveiled in China and contrary to some of the images that have appeared so far, it does not feature a notch.
Xiaomi has implemented a similar dual-camera setup as the iPhone X and has acknowledged that they have replicated Apple"s design during the launch event. Camera features such as slow motion capture, super slow motion capture, and portait mode were leaked earlier this month and they have made it to the final product.
The company showed off image comparisons between the Mi MIX 2S" AI camera and the iPhone X, and was brash enough to call the "iPhone X is crushed" a couple of times. While we cannot comment on the quality of these images without actually comparing real-life images, the technical capabilities of the MIX 2S do seem impressive at the moment.
Xiaomi has added a 12-megapixel wide angle and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens combination in its dual-camera setup with 1.4µm pixel size. Additionally, the device features 4-axis optical image stabilization, dual-pixel auto-focus, and hardware-powered noise reduction. The MIX 2S has scored the highest score on DxOMark so far, that is 101. The results are yet to be published by the website.
Under the hood, the Mi MIX 2S is powered by Qualcomm"s flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset clocked at 2.8GHz, Adreno 630, 6GB / 8GB of RAM, 64GB / 256GB of internal storage and NFC. The company has revealed that it is the first smartphone to be launched in China featuring the 845 chipset. Xiaomi has added support for Qi wireless charging on the Mi MIX 2S, which is the first appearance of the feature on any of the company"s smartphones.
In addition to the smartphone, Xiaomi has unveiled its own wireless charging pad which costs 99 RMB ($15). The company believes that the affordable charger will enable more users to embrace wireless charging. Mi MIX 2S is priced at a starting price of RMB 3299 ($572) while the fully loaded version with a free wireless charger will set you back RMB 3999 ($639).
