Xiaomi's Mi 5 is now in mass production ready for February launch

Li Wanqiang"s announcement that the Mi 5 is undergoing mass production (Google Translate).

The co-founder of Xiaomi - Li Wanqiang - took to Weibo to announce that the Mi 5 was now undergoing mass production, ready for a February launch after the Chinese New Year takes place on February 8th.

In the post, Li Wanqiang confirmed that the Mi 5 will feature Qualcomm"s latest SoC - the Snapdragon 820. The Mi 5 is also thought to feature the following hardware:

  • Display: 5.2-inch QHD
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 32GB to 64GB
  • Cameras: 16MP on the rear camera, 13MP on the front-facing camera
  • Battery: 3600mAh with Quick Charge 3.0

The Mi 5 will be the first major upgrade Xiaomi has made to its flagship device since August 2014. Since the initial release of the Xiaomi Mi 4 there have been refreshes for the device - the 4i and 4c, aimed at India and China respectively.
