AI has received some flack over the last few years with some doomsday-predictors saying the technology could spell the end for mankind. To combat the negativity, an XPRIZE has been launched which promises $5 million for a team who can "develop and demonstrate how humans can collaborate with powerful cognition technologies to tackle some of the world"s grand challenges."
The challenge was launched at the ongoing TED2016 conference, currently being held in Vancouver. The challenge will work as follows: every year at "World of Watson" - IBM"s annual conference - challengers will go head-to-head to compete for interim prizes and the chance to move on to the next year"s competition, this process will continue until TED2020 where three finalist teams will deliver TED Talks demonstrating their achievements.
Finally, the ideas presented in the talks will be evaluated, by a panel of expert judges who will assess the projects based on their technical validity; then TED and XPRIZE communities will decide the winner based on the project"s audacity and on how inspirational the talks delivered were.
The rules and guidelines for the competition will be made available in May but right now you can leave your details (name and e-mail) with XPRIZE to register your interest in the competition.
