Today, Yahoo - which was acquired by Verizon in a $4.83 billion deal yesterday - has unveiled a new and improved desktop messenger app for Windows and Mac devices along with a variety of new features. These include the ability to "unsend" messages as well as the ability to send photos and GIFs. The revamped Yahoo Messenger app is now available for download on eligible devices.
According to the company, the new app allows users to easily multi-task due to desktop notifications. Users will be able to effectively utilize their time with the added feature that allows them to drag-and-drop and share multiple images at once. Users of the app will also be able to like posts as well as send a random GIF that is relevant to their message by typing "/gif" + any search item. Yahoo went on to say that:
We are also introducing the unsend button – one of our most beloved Messenger features now on desktop. Sent that message too soon or caught a last-minute typo? Now you can take back a message, photo or GIF (yes, even after you’ve pressed send)! You can find out more about this exciting feature here.
The full change log for the redesigned Yahoo Messenger app for desktop is as follows:
- Enhanced photo sharing - Now you can share lots of high-resolution photos at once, and swipe to view them in a photo carousel.
- Unsend - Regret something? Simply tap it and select "Unsend" to remove it from the conversation.
- Likes - Tap on a message or photo to let the sender know you like it.
- Animated GIFs - Express yourself with animated GIFs from Tumblr (available on Android, iOS and web).
- Offline and low connectivity mode - Anything you share will be posted once you"re back online.
The company has also cautioned that users who still have the old legacy Yahoo Messenger app installed on their systems to update it soon as it will be discontinued - and will no longer function - from August 5. You can download the updated Yahoo Messenger app from here.
