Yahoo may have shuttered its Messenger client and service in July after 20 years due to a dwindling user base, but that did not mean the company finally decided to quit the messaging space entirely. Yahoo is now returning to what it has been known for, but this time with a special focus on group chats.
The internet services company announced today the launch of Yahoo Together, designed to organize group messages between family and friends using smart features. With Yahoo Together, you will be able to categorize group chats according to various interests and topics, just like how IRC works. There"s also an option to prioritize notifications from discussions you"re more interested in and mute the others you deem to be less important.
Like any other messaging apps available on the market, Yahoo Together lets you share photos and videos. You will also be able to set up reminders for any messages and group members will receive alerts at the scheduled time. Additionally, you can add any file to a shared group library and search for specific messages or attachments in a long thread more easily. You can watch the video below to see Yahoo Together in action:
Unfortunately, there"s no support for calls. Nonetheless, Yahoo is expected to add that feature in a future update. Yahoo Together is now available to download for iOS and Android.
